SEMURG AI ENGINE

Better Information. Faster Underwriting Decisions.

The Semurg AI Engine transforms how underwriters work — collecting, structuring and interpreting complex underwriting data to bring the information that matters directly to their attention.

It connects submission data with underwriting guidelines, risk appetite, retrocession conditions and portfolio exposure. It highlights risk factors, pricing and wording considerations, and accumulation issues to support the underwriter’s assessment and next steps.

Real-Time Portfolio Visibility

See exposure while there is still time to act.

The Engine brings accounts, programmes and distribution channels into a single portfolio view. As risks are added, exposure and accumulation are updated by account, zone, class and geography.

Before binding a risk, an underwriter can assess its effect on portfolio concentration and decide whether to adjust the line, seek additional reinsurance, refer the risk or decline it.

Capabilities

Inside the AI Engine

From raw submissions to portfolio-level signals, the Engine structures information, applies underwriting context and makes the next underwriting action clear.

Data Processing

AI reads emails, slips, schedules, submissions, supporting documents and internal correspondence. It extracts and validates insured details, cover, limits, terms, clauses, locations and coordinates — turning disparate material into one complete underwriting view.

Information is reconciled across sources. Missing items, conflicts, unusual wording and data requiring clarification are surfaced before they affect the decision.

Underwriting Assessment

AI scores each risk against underwriting guidelines, risk appetite, authority parameters and applicable retrocession conditions. It combines technical and financial analysis, loss and portfolio statistics, historical comparisons, pricing drivers and wording considerations to show what strengthens or weakens the case.

The underwriter sees the evidence behind each assessment: positive and negative signals, pricing indications, wording issues and questions that still need answering. Exceptions and complex cases are routed for the appropriate review, final judgement remains with the authorised underwriter.

Portfolio & Accumulation Control

AI links exact geocoded risk data to the current portfolio, making exposure, concentration, accumulation and PML visible by account, location, zone, class and programme.

Configured authority, capacity and PML thresholds show how a proposed risk may affect the existing book. The Engine highlights where the underwriter needs to adjust a line, apply terms, seek a referral or take another action before the risk is written.

Smart Alerts & Decision Support

AI cross-checks the submission against internal data, approved external sources and OSINT. It brings technical, financial, underwriting and portfolio findings together into a clear action plan.

Request information, clarify wording, revise the price, apply terms, refer the risk or proceed — the Engine highlights the relevant next step and the evidence supporting it.

Built by underwritersfor real underwriting operations

The Semurg AI Engine was developed within a live reinsurance business for facultative and delegated-authority portfolios, including complex industrial risks, incomplete submissions and cross-border exposures.

Every function responds to a practical underwriting requirement: structuring submissions, controlling authority, monitoring accumulation and maintaining a clear record of decisions.

What changes in practice

01 — Faster Underwriting Decisions

AI brings emails, documents and internal correspondence into one risk assessment. Missing information, conflicting details and key risk factors are highlighted with source references, helping underwriters focus their review and identify what to ask next.

02 — Control as the Portfolio Grows

AI analyses how incoming risks affect existing exposure and accumulation across accounts, locations and programmes. It highlights emerging concentrations and risks approaching configured limits, helping underwriters identify where review or an adjustment to participation is needed.

03 — Clearer Grounds for Every Decision

AI highlights the strengths and weaknesses of each risk, compares clauses and brings together technical analysis, financial findings and relevant external evidence. A suggested action plan sets out what to clarify, review or refer, with final judgement remaining with the underwriter.

The Engine handles the processing.Underwriters make the decisions.

The Engine structures information, applies agreed rules and shows where attention is required. It does not independently price or bind non-standard risks.

Risk assessment, pricing, referrals and final decisions remain with authorised underwriters.
